A homeowner identified a burglar who allegedly stole a gun from his bedroom in Wildwood.
The homeowner returned at about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday to his residence in the 800 block of New Hampshire Avenue and noticed a light on in a shed. He went to the shed and surprised two men who were attempting to remove a multi-disc compact disc player which was attached to the ceiling. The homeowner called 911.
A Wildwood police officer spotted a man in a black hooded sweatshirt running from the area. James William Edwards, 37, of Wildwood, was found hiding under a car in a carport. A pair of pliers and a piece of a stainless steel towel holder were found in his pocket. The towel holder was taken from the victim’s home.
It was also determined that Edwards had removed a Smith & Wesson gun from the master bedroom of the man’s house.
Edwards was arrested on charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $27,000 bond.
The second suspect was not apprehended.
