The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has received several calls from citizens of surrounding counties in reference to a scam.
The scammers are contacting citizens from neighboring counties and portraying themselves as Sumter County deputies. They are informing the citizens that they have a warrant out for their arrest and claiming it can be resolved with a prepaid gift card. They are also providing a call back number that has a pre-recorded message that mimics a sheriff’s office.
Residents are reminded that the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office will not call and direct you to obtain a gift card. If you receive one of these calls, you are asked to notify SCSO at 352-793-2621 or your local Law Enforcement agency.
