A 27-year-old Wildwood woman has been sentenced in an altercation with a neighbor who reportedly attempted to shoot her dog.
Jessica Leigh Cantees was arrested on a charge of battery following the altercation on July 1.
A 63-year-old woman had used a rifle to attempt to shoot Cantees’ dog, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The woman said the dog came at her in an aggressive manner and it appeared as though the dog was going to bite her, the arrest report indicated. Cantees then grabbed the woman by her left arm and forced it upwards, the report indicated.
Cantees admitted that she had grabbed the woman’s arm and said she did so to try to stop her from firing another shot at the dog. Cantees also admitted to being on the woman’s property at the time of the altercation.
Last month she entered a plea of no contest in the case. She was sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to perform 20 hours of community service.
Cantees was arrested in September after showing up uninvited during Hurricane Irma. That case is still pending in Sumter County Court.
