The building that previously housed the Wildwood Police Department may soon be repurposed as a records room.
According to Development Services Director Melanie Peavy, the police station, located at 100 Huey Street, will likely be turned into a records room.
“That building was an old bomb shelter; it’s a bunker” remarked Peavy. “We’re going to use it for records storage.”
The building was erected nearly 70 years ago and is no longer viable as an office, according to Peavy.
“It’s awful. It’s damp and dark. You don’t want to go in there; nobody does.”
Earlier this year, Wildwood city commissioners named a new police chief and approved the new police station.
