Golf cart headlights a safety issue

To the Editor:

In this country the majority of golf carts are driven on golf courses. Ergo manufacturers do not install dimmer switches for headlights. However, with 50,000 golf carts used in The Villages, there is a safety concern at night, when golf carts are driving on cart paths adjacent to moving traffic, are unable to dim their light beams, thus blinding the drivers of oncoming traffic. While I seldom favor government control, I believe The Villages must require resident cart owners to have dimmer switches installed on their golf carts. It may also be necessary to install devices to direct the headlight beams down to road level.  As a resident golf cart owner, I recognize that it is my responsibility to pay for these adjustments.
