Motorist helps law enforcement nab man involved in hit-and-run accident

A motorist who relayed information to a 911 operator, helped law enforcement nab a suspect in a hit-and-run crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 75 at Oxford.

The motorist spotted a white Chevy that struck an Averett Express truck at 3:43 p.m. and kept heading north on I-75, The motorist stayed with the Chevy and continued to relay information to the 911 operator. Sumter County sheriff’s deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol arrived on the scene and took into custody Todd Michael Schneider, 30 of Ocala. His vehicle was heavily damaged and his speech was slurred, according to the FHP report. He failed field sobriety exercises. He provided a urine sample.

A patdown of Schneider revealed a vial containing 15 Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills. He was also found to be in possession of three marijuana cigarettes and a pipe for smoking marijuana.

He was arrested on multiple charges of driving under the influence, drug charges and hit and run.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $7,000.
