Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigating death of man who behaved in bizarre manner

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the weekend death of a man who had been behaving in a bizarre manner.

James Raines, 40, was being held down in a bedroom by another man at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday at a home at 2095 NE 45th Street in Ocala when sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene.

Deputies observed Raines to be naked and not responsive. First aid was provided and Raines was transported to the hospital where he later passed away.

During this investigation, two adult females and an adult male informed deputies that Raines came into the residence naked and without permission. They stated that Raines was out of control and attacked the individuals inside the home; they also believed Raines was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The individuals within the home advised they defended themselves against Raines and deputies observed a bite mark on one of the females. Deputies identified Raines as someone who lives in the area. While at Raines’ home, another adult female was located who also appeared to be under the influence of a substance and needed medical treatment.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes detectives are actively investigating this situation. If anyone has information about this incident,call (352) 732-9111.
