A 58-year-old Summerfield man was arrested after a neighbor alerted law enforcement to an altercation the man had with his wife.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called Thursday evening to a home on SE 99th Terrace where Walter Ayala allegedly had been involved in an altercation with his wife. The pair had been arguing at the front door of the residence when Ayala’s hand went through the screen door and struck the woman in the face, according to an arrest report from the sherif’s office. He then grabbed the woman by the arm and pushed her to the ground, the arrest report indicated.

He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of battery and booked at the Marion County Jail.
