A 31-year-old man who allegedly attempted to steal two cigarettes lighters was arrested Friday at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza.

Joshua Derek White of Summerfield entered the store at about 5 p.m. and concealed the cigarette lighters in the pockets of his shorts, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

He was confronted by a loss prevention officer when he attempted to leave the store.

White told a deputy he intended to purchase the items but forgot his wallet in his vehicle, and rather than go retrieve his money he elected to steal the items.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $500 bond.
