A 49-year-old Village of Hemingway man was jailed on $11,000 bond following his arrest early Sunday on a drunk driving charge in a golf cart.
Jeffrey Robert Curtis of Aberdeen Run was spotted at 1:40 a.m. on Morse Boulevard traveling toward Odell Circle in an EZGO golf cart without lights, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Curtis told the deputy he was heading home from Margarita Republic in Spanish Springs Town Square. He said he had consumed a “couple of beers” at Margarita Republic and he also had open mugs of vodka and ginger ale in the golf cart, the arrest report indicated. Curtis’ driver’s license had been permanently revoked in 2002 for four DUI convictions, out of Broward and Monroe counties.
He failed field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on charges of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a breath test. He was also issued a citation for open container.
