John David Brandeburg, 70, of Lady Lake, FL passed away on September 7, 2014. Sometimes, ordinary people do extraordinary things. John David Brandeburg was one of those individuals, devoting his life to his family and community and leaving a legacy that won’t soon be forgotten. John served on a myriad of local organizations in an effort to enrich the quality of life for all Lake County residents. John turned each day into a social affair, as he loved meeting new people, engaging in lively conversation…always up for a good debate. A devoted husband and father, nothing in this world was more important to him than family. John’s wife and best friend of twenty years, Rosanne, was the love of his life. For John, Rosanne hung the moon. His beloved sons, Tyler and Jonathan, and grandson, Nicholas, meant the world to him, as well. His boys recall that one of dad’s greatest lessons was to never stop learning and that it’s never too late to change course in life. Passionate about education, John returned to school as an adult of fifty years earning his Bachelor’s degree from St. Leo College and soon thereafter a Master’s degree from the University of Florida. With Rosanne, also a proud alum, and son Tyler, a current UF student, rarely was “The Swamp” without their diehard Brandeburg fans. John’s sense of community was extensive. John was President of Brandeburg Development Group in Lake County for the past eleven years. He served as past Chairman of the Leesburg Partnership Design Committee, LRMC Board of Directors, The Villages Regional Hospital Foundation Board, Chairman of the Finance Committee and Treasurer for the LRMC Hospital Board, past President of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club, and current President of the Founder’s Club of Lake County. John was also instrumental in bringing the Leesburg Lightning Baseball team to Leesburg and served as President for the Lightning for eight years. For many, John will be remembered for his famous holiday sausage, meatballs, and rigatoni and his generous hospitality, a perfect blend of Central Florida and Charleroi, Pennsylvania where he was born October 10, 1943. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to LSSC Foundation. These funds will be used for the John D. Brandeburg Scholarship fund to support students, who like John, knew that education opens doors to opportunity. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Leesburg.
