With lightning speed, progress continues on The Villages Regional Hospital expansion project.
Atop the aluminum fretwork erected on the building’s skeleton, sheets of steel mesh can now be seen. Several layers of insulation are in the process of being hoisted into place. Drywall will be installed over complex electrical wiring and ventilation tubes on the inside and concrete will be sprayed on the exterior.
From the beginning in the early 2000’s, construction plans for TVRH have incorporated methods which provide state-of-the-art stability and strength — above and below the ground level — even under hurricane-force wind conditions. Optimum hospital construction obviates the probability of flooding, protects the powerful MRI magnets and other radiological hardware from damage — and most of all, through backup generators, keeps the power on to lifesaving equipment and operating arenas, to keep patients and staff safe.
Louvers have been set into place for air exchange in the massive HVAC tower, for vital heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
While strength and stability are the top priority, attention has also been paid to aesthetics. Design of the new addition will blend seamlessly with the architectural style of the original structure.
With the ever growing area population, the extra emergency room space and hospital bed capacity will be essential to serve acute care needs during peak winter months.
