In the past 12 months, the Architectural Review Committee has received 5,751 applications, with 737 of those applications coming from Community Development District 6.

“Things continue to happen in District 6,” said the district’s representative to the ARC, Irv Markley.

In a report Friday morning to CDD 6 supervisors, Markley said those applications were for room additions, garage additions, lanai enclosures and tree removals.

However, the ARC is concerned about the tree removals that are not being submitted to the body.

Markley said unapproved tree removals have become a “real dilemma.”

In particular, the ARC is concerned about preserving Live Oak trees.

“We need canopy trees,” Markley said.

CDD 6 Supervisor Joyce Edmonds said she is concerned about seeing trees cut down.

She agreed that the trees are needed.

Some homeowners feel the upkeep associated with the trees is too much for them to handle. Thus, they cut the trees down.

Before any trees are cut down, Villages homeowners must make an application to the ARC.

But many aren’t doing that.

ARC representative Don Simpson raised the issue a week ago before CDD 2.
