The Villages has begun clearing away brush in advance of its construction of the new interchange at the existing crossing of CR 468 over Florida’s Turnpike in Sumter County.
“They are just starting on what will be a big, big project for this whole area,” said Bruce Phillips, utility director for the city of Wildwood.
The new interchange will be located approximately five miles north of the County Road 470 interchange and approximately four miles south of the U.S. 301 interchange.
This project is funded entirely by The Villages.
The new connection created by the Morse Boulevard extension will create an alternative to U.S. 301 or U.S. 27 for area residents and business interests who want to access Florida’s Turnpike.
The extension of Morse Boulevard to State Road 44 is planned to be completed concurrently with construction of the proposed interchange. Sumter County also plans to widen CR 468 from two lanes to
four-lane divided between SR 44 and the proposed Turnpike interchange.
The proposed interchange will increase the accessibility of this developing area to the Turnpike and enhance the overall connectivity of the regional transportation system with other roadway network improvements in the area.
The proposed interchange is supported by the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners.
