Villages Elementary of Lady Lake accepts education proclamation

Lady Lake Mayor Jim Richards has declared this week American Education Week.

It was his last official act as mayor before he turned the gavel over to new mayor, Ruth Kussard.

There to accept the proclamation was The Villages Elementary of Lady Lake Principal David Bordenkircher and Donna McGlone of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 347. The auxiliary serves as a partner with the school in conjunction with American Education Week.

“We receive terrific support from the community and we greatly appreciate it,” Bordenkircher said.

In the proclamation, the mayor encourages residents to “officially recognize the importance of schools in creating students who develop critical thinking skills, participate in local activities and government within our town and become patriotic citizens; and urge our citizens to reaffirm their commitment to improving and supporting education at all levels and translate his commitment into action by visiting our local schools.”
