Village View Community Church reaching out through ‘Godquest’ program

Village View Community Church of Summerfield will kick off its 40-day Godquest program with services this weekend.

“Godquest reaches out to atheists and agnostics, but it is also designed for those who believe,” said Village View Senior Pastor Marty Shea.

“We don’t think God wants his followers to go on blind faith. We believe everyone should explore their faith and their reasons for it,” Shea said.

It took faith 15 years ago, when Shea and his wife Ronda founded the Village View church plant. They had tried a couple of church plants previously. But the one at Village View Community Church took root. And it blossomed.

Today, the church is a beehive of activity.

The church is under construction with the sanctuary being expanded with an additional 300-350 seats, new carpet, a bigger stage and new lighting. The church launched a school a few years ago which now boasts 77 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The day-care operated by the church has had a long waiting list for years.

The church currently has 1,200 members and 50 percent of those members are Villagers, Shea said.

Village View is looking at a leap of faith in the future, Shea said.

Shea said they will likely start another church or two near The Villages over the next few years.

“We are going to take our church to the community,” Shea said.

The public is encouraged to join in services this weekend at Village View.

“We have people tell us, ‘This is the most positive church experience we’ve ever had,'” Shea said. “We hear all of the time how friendly and welcoming we are.”
