19-year-old driving on learner’s permit arrested on charge of driving under the influence

Destinie Rose Cook

A 19-year-old woman driving on a learner’s permit was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after she was spotted sleeping in her car at a gas station.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called early Tuesday morning to the Kangaroo gas station on SE 58th Avenue in Ocala to check out a black Nissan Altima parked at one of the pumps. The vehicle was still running. Marion County Fire Rescue had already arrived on the scene to check on the woman.

The driver, Destinie Rose Cook of Ocala, was found to have a learner’s permit and not a driver’s license.

She said she had been sleeping because she was waiting on someone to purchase a cell phone.

The deputy suspected Cook had been drinking and she failed field sobriety exercises. She refused to provide a breath or urine sample.

She was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $1,000.
