Woman wins injunction against Villager who showed up at front door with knife

A woman won a temporary injunction this week against a Villager who allegedly showed up with a knife at the front door of a home in the Village of Liberty Park.

Steven De Canio was released Thursday from the Marion County Jail.

Steven De Canio, 50, was served with the temporary injunction on Tuesday afternoon at the Marion County Jail. He had been booked there earlier that day following his arrest on a Sumter County warrant.

The Village of Fernandina resident was released Thursday after posting $10,000 bond.

De Canio had been wanted by the sheriff’s office since Jan. 18 after he showed up at the front door of a residence located on Gibbes Way. The fiancé of the property owner answered the door and found De Canio with a large dagger-style knife in his hand. After a short exchange, Decanio was last seen running away from the residence, carrying the knife.

He is due Monday in Sumter County Court in a separate criminal case.

De Canio, who lives on Alesio Street in a home owned by his parents, was arrested in September on a charge of driving under the influence after a night of drinking at City Fire at Lake Sumter Landing. De Canio, who had been at the wheel of a golf cart, had encouraged the deputy to call his father who could come pick him up. The deputy opted to take De Canio into custody after he failed field sobriety exercises.

Nearly three years ago in Sumter County Court, De Canio paid a $166 fine for an open container offense and a $116 fine for a parking violation in connection with a March 10, 2015 incident.

In 2014, he was sued in small claims court by Portfolio Recovery Associates.
