A woman who in December stole a pair of shorts from the men’s changing room at the swimming pool at Colony Cottage Recreation Center has been sentenced in the case.

Kelly Lynn Hendrix, 51, was sentenced March 8 in Sumter County Court to six months in jail. She has been incarcerated since Dec. 22 at the Sumter County Detention Center. She has also been sentenced to three years probation.

The shorts were taken Dec. 4 and contained a Villager’s wallet which held $100 cash, his Florida driver’s license, an Outback Steakhouse gift card, his Villages ID card, and three credit cards.

The credit cards were later used at three local businesses – the nearby Walgreens, Publix and Shell gas station, all on Colony Boulevard.

Items purchased included Vodka, beer, cigarettes, razors and prepaid credit cards.Video surveillance and other clues led Sumter County Sheriff’s Office detectives to Hendrix and 40-year-old Brian Mark Krajewski. They were arrested on Dec. 22 on charges including larceny and fraud.

Both told detectives they had stopped by Colony Cottage Recreation Center to use the restroom.

Hendrix was out on bond at the time the shorts were stolen. She had been accused of stealing from a 79-year-old Villager.

In 2013, Hendrix was sentenced to two years probation on a charge of fraudulent use of credit cards.

In 2010, Hendrix was arrested on a charge of petit theft but was able to avoid prosecution by entering into a pre-trial intervention contract. She also performed community service in that case.

Krajewski has prior theft convictions in Lake and Osceola counties. He is free on $6,000 bond. His next court date is set for May 16.
