Woman riding as passenger on motorcycle killed in rear-end collision in Pasco County

A woman riding as a passenger on a motorcycle was killed in rear-end collision Sunday night in Pasco County.

Karen E. King, 45, of Zephyrhills, died at the scene of the accident which occurred at 8:28 p.m. on State Road 54 at Morris Bridge Road, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

She had been a passenger on a 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle ridden by Mark E. Loveitt, 57, also of Zephyrhills.

His motorcycle collided with the rear end of a 1999 Honda Civic driven by 17-year-old Samantha Marie Sweet of Wesley Chapel. She had been stopped in traffic.

Loveitt suffered serious injuries and was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Both Loveitt and King had been wearing helmets, the report noted. Both were knocked off the motorcycle in the collision.
