A 66-year-old Wildwood man is heading to state prison after arranging in 2016 for sex with a 13-year-old girl who turned out to be an undercover law enforcement officer.
John Francis D’Aiuto was sentenced last week in Lake County Court. He was ordered to serve 33 months with the Florida Department of Corrections. He has been convicted of transmission of material harmful to a minor and soliciting a child for unlawful sexual conduct.
D’Aiuto was snared in a Nov. 16, 2016 joint effort between the FBI and Lake County Sheriff’s Office in which an ad was posted online. D’Aiuto responded to the advertisement and began emailing with undercover agents posing as a 51-year-old man and his 13-year-old daughter. D’Aiuto asked for a photo of the girl showering and sent a photo of his genitals. In a phone call and text messages, D’Aiuto and the “father” began negotiating, with D’Aiuto describing the sex acts in which he expected to participate.
Two days later, law enforcement went to D’Aiuto’s home and placed him under arrest. A search of D’Aiuto’s phone turned up 11 videos depicting children in sex acts.
