Villages motorcyclist recovering after collision with golf cart which turned into his path

A Villages motorcyclist is recovering after a collision with a golf cart this week in the Village of Caroline.

Vincent Zaranti, 63, of the Village of Amelia had been riding his 2006 Honda motorcycle at 3:35 p.m. Monday on Stillwater Trail when he collided with a 2013 Yamaha golf cart which was making a left turn onto Cokesbury Drive, according to an accident report released Friday by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The golf cart was driven by 82-year-old Joan Gudaitis of the Village of Caroline.

A passenger in Gudaitis’ golf cart, 89-year-old Jean Johnson, also of the Village of Caroline, was knocked from the golf cart in the collision. She was transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center. She had not been wearing a seatbelt.

Emergency responders were at the scene of the crash in the Village of Caroline.

Gudaitis was transported to The Villages Regional Hospital. She was ticketed on a charge of failure to yield.

Zaranti also was transported to TVRH. He suffered a fracture in his right hand, a torn ligament and a really bad case of road rash.  He was back at work this week at the Villages Golf Cars facility on Duck Lake Road.

He purchased the motorcycle when he moved to The Villages about 10 years ago. His wife told Villages-News.com he is considering giving up motorcycling.
