Community Development Districts in the The Villages have been reviewing amendments to deed compliance rules for the past few weeks.
While there might be some minor adjustments to fines, two things will not change — the process remains complaint-driven and anonymous.
“Fundamentally, I don’t like the anonymous aspect of it,” District 8 Supervisor Duane Johnson said Friday afternoon.
But District Counsel Valerie Fuchs said the anonymity is important.
She said it keeps from pitting neighbor against neighbor.
A call comes in and then the district checks it out to see if the complaint has merit.
“It keeps the neighbors out of it,” she said.
And the process is complaint driven.
For example, she said a resident puts out a lawn ornament and a neighbor complains. The homeowner is then asked to take down the lawn ornament.
But if the neighborhood is accepting of the lawn ornament and no one complains, the lawn ornament can stay.
Unless of course, someone new moves into the neighborhood and takes offense at the lawn ornament.
“Once there is a complaint, the lawn ornament will have to go,” she said.
