A Villager who lost her cat this past week to a coyote, is warning fellow residents to be wary of coyotes which have been reported in record numbers this year in The Villages.

Barbara Gibson, who lives in Bellamy Villas in the Village of Ashland, said her beloved cat Annie was brutally killed between 10:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday morning.

“I advise every pet owner to be aware of this situation and be very careful with your animals outside,” Gibson said.

In August, a seven-year-old Morkie was snatched by a coyote as his owner, Gene Ricca of the Village of Belle Aire, took his pet out prior to turning in for the night.

Ricca then made an emotional plea to Community Development District 3 to do something about the predatory coyotes. At that meeting earlier this month, District Property Manager Sam Wartinbee said he has received more complaints about coyotes than he has ever received.
