When an acquaintance of Deb Moffat’s recently suffered serious injuries in a golf cart accident, she knew the time had come to make a change.
She installed seatbelts in her golf cart.
A few years ago she had already had seatbelts installed for the rear seats. A grandmother, she grew concerned about her grandchildren riding in her golf cart’s rear seat.
But now she has had seatbelts installed in the driver’s and front passenger’s seats in her golf cart.
Moffat is also manager of Streetrod Productions Inc. of Florida. In the store at the Palm Ridge Plaza, plenty of Villagers are asking about seatbelts.
“More and more people seem to be concerned about safety these days,” she said.
Advantage Golf Cars in The Villages installs seatbelts.
Store manager Stacy Riddick said the cost of seatbelt installation can run about $200.
A rear bar  to which the seatbelts can be attached can add stabilization and more security to the seatbelts.
But when it comes to seatbelts, it’s a matter of personal preference, Riddick said.
“Some people feel safer with seatbelts installed,” she said. “It’s a device to keep you in the cart while in motion.”
The Villages District Office continues to emphasize golf cart safety.
