Villagers to celebrate one-year anniversary as 3 for The Road

The Villages band 3 for The Road will mark it’s one-year anniversary Friday.

Wow. That went quick.

Their catch phrase is, “Playing What You’ve Been Missing!” And when this trio performs it is clear they are having fun. So is the audience.

Band members are Bill Davis of the Village of St. Charles, Gary Senator of the Village of Pennecamp and Larry Zepernick of the Village of Hemingway.

The three were still fairly new to The Villages when they met at the Beatlemaniacs Club.

All three had played in bands in their previous lives though they had day jobs — Bill in the wholesale grocery business, Larry was a police officer and Gary was an electronics inspector.

Then they struck a chord so to speak.

So they formed 3 For The Road.

The group started out performing on acoustic instruments. Over the past few months, they have added a bass and keyboard.

The band’s first public performance was on Sept. 27, 2012 at The Waterfront Inn in Lake Sumter Landing. At that performance, 3 for The Road performed 39 songs. Of those, 24 are still in the rotation, some more than others. They have performed about 135 songs or so over the past year.  Their current list of songs is about 100 songs, although there are really probably about 70 they do on a fairly regular basis.  They continue to add and drop songs all the time, said Sandi Senator who acts as a manager for the band. She is married to band member Gary Senator.

The group has a dedicated base of fans in The Villages known as Roadies.

“They are just great guys. And people love the music,” said Roadie Barb Greene of the Village of Glenbrook at a performance of the band earlier this year.

This coming week, you will have two opportunities to catch 3 for The Road:

• From 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square.

• They will mark their one-year anniversary of performing in The Villages on Friday, Sept. 27 at City Fire in Brownwood. The performance will be from 8 to 11 p.m.
