A Villager in a golf cart who told a sheriff’s deputy he was on a pizza run, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence on Buena Vista Boulevard.
John C. Verville, 66, of the Villlage of Belle Aire, was spotted driving a golf cart shortly after 2 a.m. Monday on a section of the roadway not intended for golf carts.
When Verville was pulled over by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy, Verville told the deputy he was on his way to NYPD Pizza to pick up some food, according to the arrest report.
The deputy pointed out that NYPD Pizza was closed for the night and that Verville was headed in the wrong direction.
The deputy asked Verville if he had been drinking to which Verville replied he had consumed about eight or nine beers. A check of two coolers on the golf cart revealed seven 12-ounce cans of Miller Lite and eight 16-ounce cans of Miller Lite, all unopened.
Verville failed field sobriety exercises, the arrest report indicated. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where he blew blood alcohol content levels of .260 and .268.
Bond was set at $1,000.
