A Villager arrested in November in a domestic battery case will avoid prosecution by entering into a pre-trial intervention program.
Robert Hennessy, 76, had been arrested after he had gone to his former home in the Village of Caroline to retrieve belongings for his new residence in the Village of Amelia. He got into an argument with a woman over a picture and a stereo, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. During the course of the argument, he knocked over a lamp which the woman attempted to catch. He then pushed the woman down, causing her skin to split and spill blood onto the floor. Hennessy left before law enforcement arrived on the scene. He was arrested at his home on Emmalee Place on a charge of battery.
This past week in Sumter County Court, Hennessy was ordered to enter into the pre-trial intervention program. If he completes the terms of the agreement, the case will be dismissed.
Hennessy was represented by attorney Cary Rada.
