A 57-year-old Villager arrested Monday afternoon in a shoplifting case at Bealls, had previously been arrested on a shoplifting charge at Publix.

Denise Allen, who resides in the Village of Lynnhaven, was caught attempting to steal a purse at the store on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake. She put the black purse under her arm and attempted to walk out of the store, but was stopped by the store’s loss prevention agent.

She was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.

In 2012, Allen was banned from the Publix store at La Plaza Grande in Spanish Springs in connection with a shoplifting case. She entered a plea of no contest and was ordered to perform 25 hours of community service, take a shoplifting class and make restitution in the amount of $29.49 to Publix.

Last year, she and an “unknown male” were evicted from a home in the Village of Orange Blossom Gardens after failing to keep up with the $1,133.55 monthly rent, according to records on file with the Lake County Clerk of Courts.
