A Village of Virginia Trace man was arrested Saturday in the theft of a cigar and lighter from GarVino’s in Lake Sumter Landing.

Thomas E. Steadman, 66, entered the cigar store on Saturday evening and picked up an Acid Blondie Cigar and a red Xikar Vigtara lighter, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He told a GarVino’s staffer he forgot his checkbook and would be right back. He then tried to leave the store with the merchandise. Steadman knocked the staffer to the floor as he tried to leave, the report indicated.

He was arrested on charges of theft and resisting recovery of property.
