A Village of Sunset Pointe couple could face fines over an illicit berm installed in their yard without approval.
The home of Thomas and Mary Jane Bloom at 1882 Blythewood Loop was the subject of a public hearing Friday morning before the Community Development District 5 Board of Supervisors.
A complaint about the berm was received in September by Community Standards.
The couple retroactively applied Oct. 11 for the berm to the Architectural Review Committee. Their application was denied because more information was needed, including the height of the plants.
A second application was filed Nov. 18, but the ARC denied that one because what the Blooms sought permission for created a barrier and was not aesthetically pleasing/harmonious to the neighborhood.
A third application to the ARC on Nov. 29 was rejected because additional information was required, including photographs.
The Blooms have 60 days to bring the property into compliance. If the property is not brought into compliance they will be fined $150 and then an additional $50 a day. If the fines reach $1,500, the matter will be turned over to district counsel who will seek remedies that could include a lien on their property. Â
