The 36-year-old son of a Village of Hemingway couple was arrested after he was spotted driving their golf cart on County Road 466.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was contacted at 4:50 a.m. Saturday after someone saw the golf cart traveling without lights.
A deputy found the golf cart near Southern Trace Plaza and identified the driver as Seth Clayton Meenach of 1257 Jebber Loop. He said he was lost and it appeared he had been drinking.
He failed field sobriety exercises and an unopened 750ml bottle of Barefoot Pink Moscato wine was in plain sight on the back of the golf cart, according to the arrest report.
The Ohio native’s parents arrived on the scene and his mother said her son had “gotten into” a box of wine. She woke up at 2 a.m. and she realized her son and the golf cart were gone.
A criminal history check revealed Meenach had been convicted in 2013 of driving under the influence in Polk County. His license was suspended and never reinstated.
He was arrested on charges of DUI and driving while license suspended. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,000 bond. As of Tuesday morning, he was still behind bars.
