Village of Bridgeport at Lake Miona woman arrested in golf cart DUI after Winn-Dixie wine run

Rosemary Cabral

A Village of Bridgeport at Lake Miona woman was arrested on a drunk driving charge after a wine run to Winn-Dixie in her golf cart.

Rosemary Cabral, 70, who lives on Hartford Path, was driving a silver Yamaha golf cart shortly before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when she ran a stop sign at Old Camp Road and Old Mill Run at Lake Sumter Landing, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy activated the emergency lights and siren of his patrol car, but Cabral’s golf cart continued traveling for another half a mile. The deputy had to yell out a window to get Cabral to finally pull over.

It appeared Cabral had been drinking.

The Massachusetts native indicated she had been to Winn-Dixie. She produced a blue bag and showed the deputy a box of Black Box brand wine she had purchased.

Cabral failed field sobriety exercises. As she was being placed under arrest she kept turning away so handcuffs could not be placed on her wrists. She refused to walk to the deputy’s patrol car. It took two deputies to carry Cabral, who stands five feet tall and weighs 130 pounds, to place her in the squad car.

Cabral provided breath samples that registered .150 and .147 blood alcohol content.

She was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and resisting arrest.

She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $2,000 bond.
