Village of Belle Aire man transported to TVRH after collision on golf cart path

A Village of Belle Aire man was transported to the Villages Regional Hospital following a collision Tuesday night on the golf cart path leading to the Lake Sumter bridge.

John Verville who lives on Hampton Lane was transported by ambulance to TVRH following the front-end collision with another golf cart at 8:10 p.m.

Ray and Laura Bowen of the Village of La Zamora had been in the other cart at the time of the crash. They had been dancing to Rocky and the Rollers at Market Square and were heading home when the collision took place.

They were riding in their cart near the Lakeshore Cottages of Lake Sumter Landing when Verville’s cart came at them, according to Laura Bowen.

“All I could see were the headlights coming straight at us. I just screamed,” she said.

The driver’s front tire of Verville’s cart collided with the driver’s front tire of their cart, she said.

She said that she believed her scream caused Verville to take evasive action.

Verville was ejected from his cart in the collision.

The Villages Public Safety Department arrived on the scene. Verville was transported by ambulance to TVRH.

The Bowens escaped injury.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
