Video shows local fisherman battling alligator over catch

A man who works at Lamers Bus Lines Inc. had quite a story to share with his co-workers on Monday.

John Shafer had been fishing on Sunday near his home at Tara Village at Haines Creek in Leesburg and had snagged a catch. But as he was trying to reel in the fish, an alligator had a different idea.

The alligator emerged from under the dock, snatched the fish and took it away from Shafer.

The incident was captured on video.
