The first-ever Villages Homeowners Association Community Electronic Recycling Event on Saturday was an enormous hit.

Tons of old video game systems, television, computers and other electronics equipment was collected by VHA members in the parking lot of Winn Dixie at Lake Sumter Landing.

Though the event had been slated to start at 9 a.m., a long line of Villagers in cars and golf carts had already formed by 8:30 a.m.

VHA Region 9 Director Matt Friedland who orchestrated the event was beyond thrilled.

“I thought we would have a good turnout, but this is unbelievable,” Friedland.

The old electronic items were hauled away by MPact Services LLC and will be properly disposed of in an “earth friendly” manner.

Friedland wanted to offer a special “thank you” to Winn Dixie for hosting the event.
