Two people hear ‘popping sounds’ before car fire breaks out on U.S. Hwy. 441

Two people traveling in a car heard “popping sounds” before flames broke out Thursday afternoon on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Summerfield.

One person was trauma alerted from the scene of the car fire near Baylee Plaza, according to James Lucas of Marion County Fire Rescue.

A second person was also hospitalized.

MCFR responded to the scene at 2:25 p.m.

The incident is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
