Sinkhole opens up at U.S. Hwy 27/441 at Main Street in The Villages

A sinkhole has opened up on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at Main Street in The Villages.

Crews were on the scene evaluating the sinkhole on Tuesday evening.

The Villages Public Safety Department and the Lady Lake Police Department were at the site.

The sinkhole is relatively small, described as being about 2 to 3 feet deep and about 2 feet in diameter.

Several patrol cars were lined up along U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in an effort to control traffic.

It is anticipated that traffic in the area will be impacted Wednesday morning.

Signs are up, blocking access to U.S. Hwy. 27/441 from Main Street.
