Sheriff’s office warns of suspicious incident in Village of Largo

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a suspicious incident in The Villages.

Deputies were called to the Village of Largo on Tuesday after a black female wearing a green T-shirt with “Sheriff” written in gold letters on the left chest and on the back with black cargo pants and black boots rang the doorbell of one of the residences and was greeted by the homeowner.

The woman appeared to be armed with an automatic handgun on her right hip. She appeared to be in her late 20’s to early 30’s weighing approximately 180 pounds.

The black female identified herself as being from the “Sheriff’s Department”, and asked if the homeowner had heard about the fugitive from Orlando. The woman further stated that she was going house to house and stopping at any of the houses that had their lights on to make them aware that the fugitive had been spotted in Leesburg on Sunday. She did ask to inspect the home for safety. The black female was driving a dark colored vehicle with a sunroof.

Detectives have checked with surrounding area agencies and confirmed that no one is currently tasked with this type of assignment, nor does the description of the black female match any deputy or officer working in this type of capacity. If you have any information or would like to report additional incidents, notify Detective Joshua Greenwood at (352) 689-4612.
