Sheriff’s office investigating apparent suicide in Village of De La Vista North

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suicide that apparently took place early Sunday morning in the Village of De La Vista North.

It was an approximately 75-year-old man who took his own life, according to the sheriff’s office. It was reported at 3:50 a.m. Witnesses indicated seeing crime scene technicians in the area of Del Rosario Street and Durango Drive. It is believed the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing.

It is the second suicide this month in The Villages.

An individual died July 16 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Polo Ridge Postal Station.
