The grand reopening of Schwartz Park in the Village of Silver Lake was celebrated Friday afternoon. The park, which is located on Aloha Way, underwent a much needed upgrading and is now a focal point for neighbors and visitors.
Paradise Recreation Center Facility Manager Tracy Whitten had balloons, music and refreshments ready to greet residents who came to admire the new facilities. A photo of Harold Schwartz sat on the picnic table, welcoming people to his new park.
Joe Welden lives across Paradise Lake in the Village of Orange Blossom Gardens and can see the new park from his window.
“What a beautiful sight to see now,” he said. “The old park was quite a rundown place. This is just picture perfect now!”
Kay Miller, a resident of the Village of Silver Lake since 1989 was thrilled to see the renovation.
“I remember when Harold Schwartz lived in the house right across the street.” she said. “He used to have picnics on this lot with his family. He would be so happy to see what it has become now.”
Lowell Baker, Amenity Authority Committee representative for the Lady Lake area, said the renovations were a long time coming and also noted that the picnic tables can be purchased by residents for memorializing family members.
Joe Burns of the Village of La Zamora was very impressed with the renovations.
“The Villages has created a picture postcard here ” he said. “It’s almost a Zen atmosphere to sit here now and look over the lake.”
The cost of the project was $265,000 and included the addition of a new shelter, deck enhancements, parking lot, lighting, landscaping and a new irrigation system.
