Resident says ‘whole pond stinks’ after being drained by multiple sinkholes

A Village of Alhambra resident on Friday asked Community Development District 2 to take action at a pond that has been drained by multiple sinkholes.

In the wake of Hurricane Irma, the pond was the scene of several sinkholes.

The pond filled up again, but was drained in late October by yet another sinkhole.

The pond is still dry.

A sinkhole has drained a pond in the Village of Alhambra.

“The whole pond stinks. It’s a great place for mosquitoes,” said Philip Hays, whose home on Botello Drive overlooks the pond.

He also asked that vegetation in the pond be cut down.

“It’s quickly becoming a morass,” Hays said.

He received assurances that the sinkhole will be repaired on Tuesday.
