Plan for assisted living facility avoids outcry of five years ago

Good communication has prevented the outcry that five years ago accompanied the plan for an assisted living facility between the Village of La Zamora and Spring Arbor Village on County Road 466, according to the project’s architect.

When Lumen Park at Lady Lake was first proposed in 2010, residents showed up in force at Lady Lake Commission meetings to oppose the planned facility.

This time around it’s been different, said architect Darren Azdell, who joined the project in 2012.

The planned assisted living facility would include 229 units and will be constructed in two phases on 30 acres of land 1,000 feet east of the Sumter County.  The first phase would consist of an assisted/independent living facility building of approximately 151,790 square feet with a total of 129 units. The second phase would consist of approximately 120,000 square feet with 100 units.

Azdell proactively met with residents and gained their input. As a result of those meetings, the original plan was revamped to include greater buffers, conservation areas and additional landscaping.

A handful of Villagers and a resident of Spring Arbor Village were on hand Monday night when the conceptual plan was presented to the Lady Lake Commission.

“It’s a quiet neighborhood and we want to keep it that way,” said Carla Gagnon of Spring Arbor Village.
