A 47-year-old Oxford woman is free on $2,000 bond after she allegedly put fried chicken tenders, macaroni salad and onion rings in her purse and tried to leave a Publix without paying for them.

Jacquelyn Hamilton Vaughn was taken into custody at 12:41 p.m. Wednesday by Leesburg police.

Vaughn was initially detained by a store employee and Vaughn asked, “Yeah, I was stealing some food for lunch. Am I going to jail?” the arrest report indicated.

In addition to the food, she also had taken a $10.99 bottle of lotion, the arrest report said.

A criminal history check showed Vaughn had previously been convicted of shoplifting in Marion and Sumter counties.

She was booked at the Lake County Jail. She is due for arraignment June 22 in Lake County Court.
