An odd couple has been appointed to serve on Lady Lake’s Economic Development Advisory Committee.
Sue Kelly, head of the Lady Lake Chamber of Commerce, described herself as a “logical” choice for a seat on the EDAC board when she made a pitch Monday night to the Lady Lake Commission.
“I represent 300 businesses,” Kelly said.
The second appointee, Nora Choquette, seems to be an unconventional choice.
Choquette became a prominent voice last year when the megachain Wawa announced plans to build a gas station and convenience store at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and County Road 466. At that time, she advocated for the preservation of local landmarks over “gas pumps and corporate greed.”
The Chamber of Commerce has been an enthusiastic backer of Wawa.
Kelly and Choquette replace Frank Kirschenheiter and Sue Nord whose appointments expired and signaled they no longer wished to serve.
