Ocala man wanted on felony warrants arrested after becoming enraged over loss of red wagon and stuffed animal

Stephen Bryan Holder

A 49-year-old unemployed Ocala man with outstanding felony warrants was arrested Thursday night after becoming enraged because a woman gave away his red wagon and threw his stuffed animal in the trash.

Marion County deputies were called to a home in the 3500 block of NE 59th Terrace after a woman reported a domestic dispute. When they arrived, she told them that Stephen Bryan Holder was inside the home and “in a rage” because she had given his wagon to a neighbor and thrown away the stuffed toy.

The woman also told deputies that Holder had rifles inside the house and had made statements about “killing the police and anyone else in his way.” She said she believed Holder had outstanding warrants, a sheriff’s office report states.

Deputies ordered Holder to exit the house multiple times, but he refused. After they verified that he had three active outstanding felony warrants, deputies again told him he was under arrest and needed to come out of the house. A short time later, Holder surrendered, the report says.

The woman told deputies that during the incident, Holder had punched walls and broken items inside the residence. She said she started recording the incident on her cell phone, but he grabbed it from her and said, “Give me the phone. You ain’t calling the police,” the report says.

The woman said Holder then threw a wooden box at her feet, causing a bruise on her right toe. She said he also started yelling at neighbors because he thought they had called police.

Holder then grabbed a large machete, about 16 inches in length, and started swinging it around while saying, “I’ll kill her and everyone else,” the report says, adding that the woman was in arm’s length of Holder and was afraid he was going to strike her.

Deputies took note of a machete on the kitchen table, which the woman identified as the weapon Holder was using. They spoke with neighbors who refused to identify themselves but confirmed hearing “a commotion” coming from the residence and hearing Holder yelling at the woman. The neighbors also said Holder exited the residence at one point and started threatening them until deputies arrived.

Holder was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and battery. Holder was held on $50,000 bond on those charges.

In addition, Holder also was charged with kidnapping and two counts of robbery without a firearm and held on $70,000 bond. Those charges stemmed from an April 6 case that also involved three other suspects. The sheriff’s office report claims that Holder threatened and then lured a man to a location where he was beaten and robbed him of his ZTE cell phone and $193.

Holder is due to appear in a Marion County courtroom Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. to answer to all five charges.
