New York driver was at wheel of vehicle that drove onto golf cart path at Brownwood

A 50-year-old New York woman was at the wheel of a vehicle that flipped on its side Sunday afternoon after entering a golf cart path and crashing into a pole at Brownwood.

Debra Ann Meder of West Babylon, N.Y. had been driving the 2009 Nissan Murano at 1:45 p.m. Sunday and had been turning into a parking lot in the 2600 block of West Torch Lake Drive when the accident occurred, according to an accident report released Tuesday by the Wildwood Police Department.

Meder attempted to make an immediate left turn onto the golf cart path labeled “Buena Vista Recreational Trail” within the parking lot. The trail is divided by a concrete post in order to keep larger vehicles out. A sign is posted stating “Golf carts only,” the accident report noted.

The vehicle struck the dividing post with the front left portion of the vehicle, The collision led to the vehicle turning over onto its passenger side.

Meder and a passenger, 73-year-old Pauline Emma Meder also of West Babylon, N.Y., were removed from the vehicle through the roof of the vehicle by the Villages Public Safety Department.

Both the driver and passenger,were transported by ambulance to Leesburg Regional Medical Center.
