Motorcyclist killed in crash involving teen driver in Lake County

A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck Thursday morning on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lake County.

William Ward, 27, of Ocala, had been stopped at 7:47 a.m. on U.S. Hwy. 441 and Skinner Avenue when he was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by Laurel Mako, 17, of Leesburg, according to the Leesburg Police Department.

The motorcyclist had been stopped in the left/inside lane, waiting for a school bus loading children.

Ward was transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center where he later died.

This case remains under investigation and, although preliminary results indicate the truck being “at fault” in the crash, applicable charges are pending the outcome of a full investigation, police said.

Motorcyclist dies in collision with school bus in Ocala

A motorcyclist was killed when he ran into a school bus Thursday afternoon in Ocala.

The motorcyclist collided with the school bus at 3:03 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of SE 30th Ave and SE 14th Street, according to the Ocala Police Department.

The motorcyclist was not immediately identified, pending notification of next of kin.

No one on the school bus was injured.
