Marion County firefighters rescued a horse this past week that was submerged up to its ears in a pond.
A 911 caller on Wednesday afternoon reported that his horse had broken loose from him, ran across a field and got stuck in a pond.
Thunderstorms were rolling in and MCFR Technical Rescue Team was summoned from MCFR’s Friendship Fire Station #21.
The horse’s handler and a district captain were able to coax the horse closer to the bank, however, the bank was very steep and the horse was still stuck in the reeds. Tech Rescue Team members arrived on scene and were able to complete a rope rescue. Team members were able to get a rope on the horse and walk him around the pond. Once the horse was able to find stable ground, they pulled the horse to safety.
The horse is doing well and showed no sign of injury.
