A man riding in a pickup truck adorned with an American flag and bound Monday night for Brownwood Paddock Square, was arrested in connection with a theft case.

Dustin Carter Mayo, 28, of Wildwood, was arrested after the truck was pulled over at 7:35 p.m., according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. During the traffic stop, Mayo was found to be in possession of a spoon and a syringe containing heroin, the report indicated. Mayo was already a suspect in the June 25 theft of a generator, chainsaws and landscaping equipment from a home in Oxford. The generator was located July 5 by law enforcement at Belleview Pawn. Another man admitted he had met with Mayo at Brown’s Produce in Oxford and bought the generator from Mayo for $150. They later pawned it.

Mayo is facing felony charges of burglary, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and drug possession. He is also facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug equipment. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $15,000 bond.
